Program Description:

What does it mean for something to be "disability justice-informed"? How is our system of mass incarceration shaped by Ableism? What role can funders take in abolishing the Prison Industrial Complex?

The Disability Carceral State Institute is a 2-part series that uses small group discussion, educational presentations, and stakeholder stories to explore the following key themes:

  • How Ableism perpetuates multiple supremacy systems (such as racism, misogyny, poverty discrimination, and transphobia) to fuel mass incarceration, state control, and violence;
  • Examining the concept of the "Disability Carceral State;" and
  • How disability justice-aligned philanthropic engagement can advance Prison Industrial Complex Abolition.

This series, hosted by  Funders for Justice will take place on October 3-4, 2023, from 11:30am-1:00pm Central Time.

Sessions build upon another another, so attending both is encouraged. This program is designed for staff, board members, grants panelists, and donors of grant-making institutions, donor networks, and funder affinity groups. Folks who are new to the issue of disability justice are very welcome to attend.

The cost to attend is $300 per participant.
