What is Lunch with Leaders?

Philanthropy Missouri's Lunch with Leaders is a unique leadership development program aimed at fostering the next generation of philanthropic sector leaders in Missouri. The program aims to create relationships and spark dialogue among new and experienced grantmakers.

How does it work?

New grantmakers and a rotating cast of experienced grantmakers gather for an informal lunch coordinated by Philanthropy Missouri. Each lunch has four spots for new grantmakers and is hosted by one experienced grantmaker. Meeting in small groups encourages informal, yet robust, conversation around relevant topics. A "springboard" article is sent out in advance, which helps prompt discussion.

How will it work virtually?

To open this opportunity to our statewide Membership, this lunch will be held online via Zoom Meeting. Participants will receive a $30 gift card to a food delivery website to select their meal and have it delivered to their workspace.

Who should attend?

PhilMO Members (FREE) and Non-Member Grantmakers ($50.00) who have been in the field less than 5 years. Space is limited to 4 participants.

About Greg Burris

Greg Burris served as the City Manager for Springfield for ten years, from September 15, 2008 – the day the Great Recession started – through June 30, 2018.  In that capacity, he had the privilege to lead the most functionally diverse organization in southwest Missouri, with direct responsibility for 2,300 employees, a $366-million annual budget, and over $1.3 billion in assets.

After an eight-day retirement, Greg joined United Way of the Ozarks and serves as the organization’s President & CEO.  Greg is the founder of the Give 5 Program, a first-of-its-kind program that matches retired and retiring Baby Boomers with key volunteer opportunities in their community.

Greg married up, was born on Halloween, is a recovering computer programmer, formerly worked as a custodian and a lumber stacker, was a professional musician with limited talent for 12 years, worked for 25 years at Missouri State University, may be the only computer programmer put in charge of the design and construction of an 11,000-seat basketball arena, has a passion for great customer service, once made a half-court shot 24 seconds before halftime in the State high school basketball championship game, pole vaulted for a school that had neither a pole nor a pit, and enjoys French Silk Chocolate Pie (typically, alone in a dark corner).

This program is currently full. Please email jojo@philmo.org to be added to the waitlist.
